Comforter

This sculpture entitled “Comforter” was inspired by both the MGH Comforters, a group of women who have to date made and donated over a thousand quilts for very sick patients as a memory of their care at the MGH, and the Gee’s Bend Quilters, a group of black women in Alabama who made quilts to keep their families warm but were so beautiful they ended up displayed at several prominent museums including the MFA in Boston. Carved in marble from Lake Champlain, this work celebrates the creativity and beauty that emerges from the hearts of women everywhere to comfort us all.
